Audi is beginning to fairly dominate the World Car of the Year Awards. The Ingolstadt automaker has just won itself two major awards at the international competition; World Performance Car and Car Design of the Year.
It is now two years in a row that Audi has bagged these two awards; last year it was the RS 4 and TT respectively that got the final nod.

Just to cement its place the R8 was pitted against sibling A5 as well as the Mazda2, winner of the overall WCOTY Award for 2008.The R8 has left each person lucky enough to get their grubby paws on it in sheer awe of its talents as a performer that not only delivers oozes of raw, edgy tyre-shredding Newtons on the road, but also as a well-balanced everyday car that almost goes anywhere where roads are paved. We know that a car from the same extended family (no names need mentioning) has owned this label since before forever, yet now R8 is going with it freely…Using the same 4.2-litre V8, 420 bhp/309kW power unit found inside the RS 4, the R8 is said to force its way into the 100km/h mark from zero in a straight 4.7 seconds. And thanks to Quattro, even folks in Iceland and Alaska can drive one.

In the ABT Sportsline version the engine becomes even more sporty and dynamic – without, of course, losing its economical and ecological qualities. The Clean Diesel still remains as economic as before its power upgrade in Bavaria. Thanks to ABT POWER, however, its performance is increased from the standard 240 HP (177 kW) to 278 HP (204 kW). At the same time the torque is increased to 580 Nm (standard: 550 Nm) and the diesel engine can meet all demands and always provides sufficient reserves of power. At the world’s largest tuner of vehicles from the VW Group, SUV now also stands for “Sporty Und Versatile”. With the ABT Q7 3.0 TDI Clean Diesel the “S” also stands for “saving”.

Audi Is Most Improved Brand In Customer Loyalty

More than ever, establishing a consumer relationship that endures beyond a single vehicle is crucial. When it comes to lasting loyalty, Audi made greatest strides in 2009, earning recognition Tuesday night as the R. L. Polk & Co. “Most Improved Loyalty to Make” award winner during the 14th Annual Automotive Loyalty Awards in Detroit.

Introduced into the Automotive Loyalty Awards this year, the “Most Improved Loyalty to Make” award honors the automotive brand that garnered the greatest percentage point improvement in consumer loyalty over the course of 2009. With a 4.9% growth in this area, Audi surpassed all other brands in the market.

“Earning the long-term affinity of consumers is the ultimate benchmark of success,” said Johan de Nysschen, President, Audi of America. “While attracting interest is always vital, maintaining that bond and translating it to repeat sales is an exceptional victory. The recognition by R. L. Polk validates the work of the Audi employees and dealers in creating this lasting bond.”

The Polk Automotive Loyalty Award is based on actual model-year purchase/lease activity and recognizes manufacturers for superior performance in customer retention—a critical aspect of building and maintaining market share. Customers of these manufacturers had such a positive overall experience that they came back to buy another vehicle of the same model, make, or manufacturer.

For this year’s “Most Improved Loyalty to Make” award, Audi received top honors after sales figures confirmed the highest industry wide percentage of this pattern occurring among Audi owners.

“After 14 years of honoring automakers for successes in customer loyalty, we added the “Most Improved Loyalty to Make” award for model year 2009 because we felt that brands able to make significant strides in this regard deserved recognition,” said Stephen Polk, chairman, president and CEO of Polk. “This is not an easy task to accomplish, which speaks volumes about the momentum that Audi has acquired in recent years.”
