The new S281 is based on the 2010 Ford Mustang, which was given both styling and engine modifications. Mike Shields, CEO of Saleen Performance Vehicles, said that his team did a “terrific job” and that he is proud to offer this car to customers.
The S281’s 4.6-liter V8 engine is equipped with a Saleen Series VI.5 twin-screw supercharger and dual-stage intercooler and mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. As a result, the car produces 485 hp and 624 Nm of torque. The car’s exterior gets a new grille, front fascia, extended rear fascia and trunk lid with integrated wing, the exterior design is completed by 20-inch, 7-spoke alloy wheels with Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tires, and Saleen S281 Supercharged fender badging.
For its interior, the S281 is featured with new, leather sport seats with Ultra-Suede inserts, highlighted by chevron-like Ultra-Suede red tabs in the seatback bolsters, and redesigned gauges, steering wheel, center console and shifter. Contrasting Saleen logos are found on the door panels, and Saleen logos in the door sill plates that illuminate when the door is opened. David Byron, design director at Saleen Performance Vehicles, said that the goal was to “create the most visually enticing American sports car ever.” He said that the 2010 Mustang was the perfect launching pad, allowing the team to build a world class and authentic Saleen.
