Renault ZOE Z.E.: the first 100% electric ’spa’ concept car

In one of the most unusual pairings so far this year comes the first 100% electric ‘spa’ concept car — the Zoe ZE. This partnership consists of French car manufacturer Renault and L’Oreal Luxury Products division Biotherm. This concept car is simply a preview of the Renault production vehicle, which will be launched in 2012.

Biotherm research laboratories have conducted in-depth studies on the cellular mechanisms of the skin, while also testing the values of aromatherapy. Renault’s involvement is limited to the “design and approval of equipment for comfort and well-being.”

The Zoe ZE concept is the first to offer a glimpse to what future in-car comfort technologies would be like. Would you like to have a spa treatment while commuting?

There’s probably an entire market for that. The vehicle’s roof doesn’t just serve to protect the passengers from the heat and cold, it also optimizes climate control performance by recovering energy via its honeycomb photovoltaic cells.

The car also features a shield of polyurethane gel at the front and the back. This gel acts as a second skin that protects vulnerable parts of the body in the event of mild urban impact.
