According to the latest reports, Porsche offers an optional dual-clutch transmission for its updated Cayman, manufactured by ZF Friedrichshafen AG which apparently improves the fuel economy with up to 10 percent to 31mpg (7.6 liters per 100km) compared with the earlier versions of the car equipped with the Tiptronic S automatic transmission. The seven-speed gearbox is also a better choice for the Cayman S, showing a 15% increase or 30.1mpg (7.8 liters per 100km). The new ZF dual-clutch transmission also prevents power loss and speeds up the gear-change process by 60 percent.
The new dual-clutch transmission is manufactured at the ZF plant in Brandenburg, near Berlin but according to Autonews, the partnership is not new because the German manufacturer also produces transmissions for the Porsche Panamera, Boxster and 911. The new dual-clutch transmission option costs 2,945.25 euros in the German market.
For those who don’t know, the updated Cayman and Boxster models were revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show showing newly developed more-powerful boxer engines. The new Cayman delivers 256 hp, a 20 hp increase comparing it to the old model while the Cayman S has an extra 25 hp, showing a total output of 320 hp. The Porsche Cayman is priced in Germany from 50,314 euros while the Cayman S starts at 61,976 euros.
